Bittersweet Departures

As most of our yearlings purchased in the sale have departed, the weaning of the foals is evermore quickly approaching. We still have a few remaining yearlings, which will be brought to their new homes around Labor Day.

Three of our favorite fillies: Alto Belle ‘19, Little Miss Brown ‘19, and Royal Dancer ‘19 were all transported last week to a farm in Florida. All three girls were very good about getting onto the trailer for the first time. Of course, our fearless Little Miss Brown ‘19, now named Sugar Plum Dancer, was the first to accomplish this daunting task. All the other girls were hesitant, but they followed close behind as we lured them into the trailer with bits of alfalfa.

They were in for a pretty long drive!

Here is what we will miss most about each girl:

Little Miss Brown ‘19 (LMB), now Sugar Plum Dancer, was a badass, sassy filly with no regrets in life. She would always give a big, wide-eyed look and throw up her head when you grabbed her by the halter as if saying,” I didn’t do anything, I PROMISE! Don’t be mad at me!” Moreover, Sugar would be an asset to any kickboxing or karate team, as her unexpected and quick hind-leg movements often caught us off-guard.

Royal Dancer ‘19, still Royal Dancer was a bright, very aware filly whose curiosity sometimes got her into trouble. Royal was a little sensitive - but in a good way- if you gave her a chance, she was very sweet and pleasurable to be around. However, whip out that yellow bottle of fly spray, and you might run into a little trouble.

Alto Belle ‘19, now Dancing Bella was perhaps the kindest, most gentle filly I have ever met. If Alto Belle could have a different name, it would be Bella Ballerina. Like a dancer in a ballet, she was poised and beautiful. The light shimmery color than ran down the back of her tail was unusual, but I used it to distinguish her, from her sisters. Upon first sight, Bella caught my eye. For the rest of my time knowing her I would always walk her out to the paddock. Nonetheless, she did have her bad days, like the time she decided to rear up and race her sisters (with her leadrope attached!) but, for the most part, she was as well behaved and cautious as a ballerina.

We all hope for the very best for all three girls, and we know they will be off to do great things with their big personalities!
