SUGAR PLUM FARM

Honoring Tony Malatino

Last spring, we lost Tony Malatino, the husband of Robin and co-founder of Sugar Plum Farm. Originally from Sicily, Tony and his family immigrated to the United States and spent many years living in Albany, New York. A self-made man, Tony understood what it meant to go without and worked tirelessly to achieve his dreams. Although he became a very successful businessman, Tony never forgot the life lessons he learned growing up in Albany.

A Meaningful Partnership

When looking for a way to memorialize her husband, Robin realized that giving back to the community where Tony once lived would be the perfect tribute. She soon discovered that the neighborhood school Tony had attended was still there. After thoughtful conversations with school officials and staff, Sugar Plum Farm is proud to partner with ROOTS Academy (formerly Philip Schuyler).

Our Vision

Our goal moving forward is to maintain a small Thoroughbred broodmare band and to welcome mini horses, goats, donkeys, and other small animals to the farm. Children from ROOTS Academy will have the opportunity to visit the countryside, see and smell green grass, and interact with the animals.

Through meaningful engagement with animals and nature in a safe, supportive farm setting, we aim to empower children through experiences that foster confidence, compassion, and personal growth.

Looking Ahead

This marks the beginning of a new journey for Sugar Plum Farm. Over time, we hope to expand our programming, welcome volunteers, host a summer program, and continue growing our impact.

We invite you to follow along as we embark on this new adventure.
